Shoes for Superheroes on the Go

Toussaint and Tia are in the living room dressed as superheroes (Spiderman and Uniqua) with couch pillows, bed pillows, Toussaint’s mattress, etc. piled in ever-changing positions, doing a lot of running and jumping.  At first, they asked me to move the Diego table away from the TV so they could have space to launch themselves from the couch.  They assured me they would stop just before smashing into the TV.  I nixed that.  A bit later I was in the kitchen and I heard Toussaint say, “We shouldn’t knock over the Christmas tree.”  A moment later he came to find me to tell me that everything was fine in the living room, and everything they were doing was perfectly safe, so I should continue with my housework because there was no need to come check on them.  Naturally, I did check but nothing seemed amiss, thank goodness.  A bit later they brought me their shoes to put on them.  Toussaint had chosen his tie sneakers over his Velcro ones.  I said this was an excellent time to practice his tying.  He didn’t want to.  I asked what if Superman (he’d changed costumes) was on his way to save someone and there was no one around to help him with his shoes.  Superheroes simply must know how to tie, I said.  He said that wouldn’t be a problem.  If that happened, Superman would just wear his Velcro shoes.

How to Save the Dinosaurs

Toussaint was doing a dinosaur dig on the PBS website this morning.  He asked why the dinosaurs died out and I said, “The weather changed.”  Tia said, “And ‘um didn’t like it?”  I said, “It got too cold and they didn’t know how to build houses and make heat the way we do.”  She said, “You could show ’um.  You just go in there and move the thing over to the side to side and that’s how you do the heat.”

Squooshy

This morning Tia was very excited about Christmas and she proclaimed, “I love everybody!” Then, adding her highest form of adoration, she said, “I love every-squooshy-body!”

Christmas Train

We got a live cut tree Saturday.  Toussaint picked it out, insisted on helping me carry it in, tried to put the stand together himself, and did all the decorating except for the lights (which I did). The silver garland is sort of balled up and clumped on one branch. It looks terrific. We set up the train and Toussaint and Tia loaded the boxcar with Little People and the gondola (that's the box w/out a lid) with the ceramic figures from the manger, and drove it around the tree about 145 times. Tia's also discovered it makes a great prop for her tantrums. It takes a bit of work to get the wheels of all 6 cars lined up properly on the track, so whenever she gets mad now she heads to the living room to derail the train. Toussaint and I finally gave up last night and the train is still tipped over on its side, Mary and Joseph and the shepherds with their staffs all lying in a heap.
